Good Wednesday late morning, this is Burton with your surf update recorded on January the 11th 2011 at 11:35 a.m. There is a winter storm watch in effect from Thursday morning going into Friday with 5 to 8 inches of snow expected here in the Racine area. Winds are light out of the SSE at 6 mph and the outside air temperature is at 45 degrees under clear and sunny skies at Racine County beaches. Waves for today are in the ankle high range and under with very poor surfing conditions at Racine beaches. Today we will see plenty of sun in store and winds will be light and variable and the outside air temperatures will push up into the mid 40's. Tonight look for increasing clouds with a slight chance for some snow showers. Winds for tonight will also increase and be moderate out of the NNW and tonight the low air temperatures will drop down into the upper 20's at Racine County beaches. Thursday look for strong winds out of the NW with blowing and drifting snow and skies will be cloudy. The outside air temperatures will struggle to push up into the upper 20's for Thursday at Racine beaches. Thursday night still look for moderate to strong winds out of the NW and WNW and there will be some snow still blowing and drifting around and skies will be on the cloudy side. The outside air temperatures for Thursday night will drop down into the middle to upper teen's at Racine beaches. The sunrise was this morning at 7:21 a.m and the sun will set this late afternoon at 4:38 p.m. The water surface temperatures off of Racine County beaches are still at a cool 40 degrees. Some fun waves in the forecast going into the late afternoon hours for Thursday with some solid winds and waves out of the NNW and NW. As of now the late afternoon hours on Thursday will be your best bet to get the bigger waves in and the sheltered spots here in the Racine area will be fair to good with some fun lefts and rights to be had. The standout spots will be bigger going into the afternoon hours for Thursday but there will be a lot of wind on it. The sheltered spots going into the late afternoon hours on Thursday will be smaller with wave heights pushing up into the stomach to chest high but the surfing conditions will be much cleaner that the standout spots. After Thursday we will see waves for Friday morning with still winds and waves out of the NW. Arctic air will be moving in though from Canada for Friday so surf with someone and stay as warm as you can out there by wearing your heavy winter wetsuit and gear. Have a great surf on Thursday with some fun waves and be safe while surfing out on all of The Great Lakes. The next surf report will be on Friday morning. Happy Surfing The Great Lakes 2012. Here is another shot of a wave from when i was out in California surfing Huntington Beach back at the end of 2011. Burton
