Good evening, this is Burton with you ice update recorded on February the 3rd 2009 at 6:29 p.m on Tuesday. Winds are moderate to strong out of the NNW at 15 with gusts to 23 and the outside air temperature is at 15 with the wind chill at
cold 0 degrees. Very dangerous conditions prevail off of Racine beaches for surfing or any other water sports with a lot of ice in the lineup and a very dangerous ice shelf to add to it, surfing is strongly not advised in Racine County on Lake Michigan. There were some good waves to watch off of Racine Beaches with winds and waves mainly out of the NNW but like I said it was nice to watch. Some light at the end of the tunnel starting to show with a slight warm up going into this end of the week and into the weekend but it is going to take several days of warm weather to get things back to normal. Tonight we will still see moderate to strong winds out of the NNW with a cold low around -2 degrees and it will still be mostly cloudy for the Racine area. The sunrise was at 7:03 a.m and the sun will set tonight at 5:07 p.m. Lets really hope this warm up lasts for a while so we can get back to surfing off of Racine beaches and the other parts of the lake, its been a long winter. Check for next Tuesday ice update. This picture was from today with some really good waves but unfortunately no way out.
