Good Tuesday afternoon, this is Burton with your No Salt Surf ice update effective on January the 27th 2008 recorded at 1:27 p.m. WNW winds light at 7 mph with the outside air temperature at a cold 13 degrees under mostly cloudy Wisconsin skies. Today we will see a high air temperature right around 17 degrees with winds mainly light and variable with increasing clouds going into the afternoon hours with a good chance for some light snow. Snow amounts will not exceed over the one inch range so not too much to worry about with accumulation. Tonight we will see light winds out of the north with off an on snow showers and we will see a cold low air temperature at Racine beaches right around 7 degrees. As far as the ice shelf and the ice in the water it has really stayed the same for the last month with still very dangerous conditions for surfing out on Lake Michigan and surfing is not advised. As far as I can see with no warm up in the near future and our air temps staying under the 30 degree mark it is still looking like several more weeks of not surfing due to the very dangerous conditions. The sunrise this morning was at 7:10 a.m and the sun will set tonight at 4:58 p.m. A colder then usual winter this year has really locked us in with the ice for most parts of Lake Michigan all we can hope for is a solid warm up in the near future so hang in there and hope for an early spring thaw. Have a great week and check for next Tuesdays No Salt Surf Ice update. Picture is of Fred launching in my backyard taking advantage of the snow in the winter of 2007, picture by Rusty Malkemes.
