Good stormy Tuesday, this is Burton with your surf update for Racine County recorded at 7:53 a.m on Tuesday December the 9th 2008. NNE winds at 15 mph with the outside air temperature at 34 degrees under cloudy conditions with a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Wave are starting out on the very small side for this morning with wave heights in the shin high range and under with very poor conditions for surfing out on Lake Michigan. Waves will be building through the day though with stiff winds developing out of the north and NNE with this strong storm system working it's way through the Racine area. We still have a winter storm advisory in effect until 9:00 p.m this evening. Rain and a mix of sleet and snow will be on tap for this early morning but it will all turn over to snow going into the mid morning hours, 1 to 3 inches is possible with maybe a little more. 36 degrees was already our high air temperature for today and for tonight we will see a cold low air temp right at 14 degrees with winds moderate to strong out of the NNW. Waves for this afternoon will get up to the waist to stomach high range with the top standout spots seeing some waves before the sun sets up to chest high, but overall still on the poor to fair side for surfing here in the Racine area with a lot of wind on it at the standouts. Your best bet if venturing out for a late afternoon surf would be to find a good sheltered spot but the waves are not going to be as big as the standout spots. The sunrise this morning was at 7:10 a.m and the sun will set tonight at 4:17 p.m, water surface temps are still at a cold 40 degrees off of Racine beaches. Wednesday look for calmer conditions as far as weather goes but look for colder air temps with a high only around 23 degrees. Waves will be out of the NNW for Wednesday morning with some fun waves filling in from tonights strong winds out of the NNW. Be careful out there today with some dangerous driving conditions and some nasty weather. Have a good Tuesday and check for an early a.m surf update for Wednesday morning's surf.
